Top Penetration Testing Tools The Pros Use PART 1

What is Penetration Testing :

 > Penetration testing is an authorized simulated attack on a computer system, designed to evaluate the security of the system. The test is performed to identify weaknesses including the potential for unauthorized parties to gain access to the system's features and data, as well as strengths, enabling a full risk assessment to be completed.

Types of Penetration Tests :

> Network Penetration Test :

  • Black Box
  • White Box
  • Gray Box

> Wireless Penetration Test :

  • Application Security Testing

> Physical Penetration Test :

  • Social Engineering
    • Remote
    • Physical

> Penetration testing can consist of one or more of the following types of test :

    White Box Test :

A White Box Test is one in which organizations provide the o=penetration testers with a variety of security information relating to their systems, to help them better find vulnerabilities.

    Blind Tests :

A blind test, known as a black-box test, organizations provide penetration testers with no security information about the system being penetrated.

    Double Blind Tests :

A double-blind test, which is also known as a covert test, is one in which not only do organization not provide penetration testers with security information.

    External Test :

An external test is one which penetration testers attempt to find vulnerabilities remotely. Because of the nature of these types of test, they are performed on external-facing application such as websites.

   Internal Test :

An internal test is one which the penetration testing takes place within an organization's premises. These tests typically focus on security vulnerabilities that someone working form within an organization could take advantage of.
